I grew up in Minnesota, and already as a teenager was interested in serving the Lord.  I have been ordained as a pastor for twenty-six years now and have appreciated having a variety of ministry experiences -- from being director of the Degage’ Coffee House in Grand Rapids, to serving as a missionary in the war-torn country of El Salvador, to pastoring in a Latin American congregation in the inner-city of Boston, and then on to suburban church ministry in Comstock Park, MI, and now here in Grandville.  My vision for the church everywhere is that people’s hearts are continually changing as we grow to know Jesus more and more, and that out of our changed hearts we become better and better at bringing Christ and his love to others.  I am married to Laura and together we have four great kids and one equally great daughter-n-law.  Besides helping people grow in Christ, my interests also include spending time with my family and friends; hunting, fishing, and target shooting; engaging in outdoor activities such as canoeing and gardening that allow me to observe the beauty of God’s world; figuring out how to fix things and make things work; finding ongoing opportunities to read and learn; and riding around in a ’66 Ford Bronco that I rebuilt from the bottom up.  Now you know a little about me, and hopefully something about the Trinity community also as you explore this website; and if you are able, we would love to have you visit Trinity so we can get to know you too.

I have been involved with the youth programs at Trinity on and off for over 20 years and am in my 6th year as the Youth director. I love to be around kids because they are so full of life and constantly bring energy and joy to my life. I pretty much love any sport, but my recent hi-light has been playing softball with my sons and their friends and hope my body holds out for a few more years! The highlight of my year with the youth is spending a week every summer serving in various destinations on a mission trip.

When not busy trying to juggle work and spending  time with family, I also enjoy reading books on and learning more about a variety of topics ranging anywhere from theology and ministry to sustainable living and eating.  I also enjoy gardening and eating, so I guess you could say it’s all about food for me – food for the body as well as for the mind.  I also appreciate being able use my abilities in finance and administration to help other organizations such as Georgetown Harmony Homes and Classis Georgetown.
