What is happiness, and how do you find it? The entire book of Psalms is introduced to us in the context of this question. We learn three things about happiness from this first Psalm. First, that happiness really is possible, even though we do go through seasons of unhappiness; second, that happiness is a choice we make to find our allegiance and delight in the Word of God; and third, that happiness is not something that can be pursued in and of itself, but is a consequence of pursuing Christ, of putting all our energies into knowing Christ and developing a relationship with him. The entire book of Psalms exemplifies this kind of relationship with God that will ultimately bring us the happiness, or shalom, that we long for. What does our church today have in common with the church in Laodicea that is spoken of in the book of Revelation? When Christ, our great physician, looks at us is he ready to diagnose us with the same problem that ailed the church in Laodicea? Unfortunately, yes! Because we are prosperous and blessed by God, we too lean toward idolatrous prosperity, which often results in our being detestable lukewarm Christians. But is there a cure? Will Jesus, who is ready to hurl us out of his mouth in utter disgust, instead seek to be reconciled with us, even to the point of letting us rule along side him on his throne? God has called each of us to be leaders in his Kingdom, so how well-prepared are we to lead? In Paul's second letter to Timothy we find that there are several criteria that we can use to evaluate if we are prepared to lead well. First, is the Lord well pleased? Does he see that we find great pleasure in serving him? Second, is the work we do well done? Are we giving it our all? And third, are we using the Word well? Is it living and active in all that we do? This message challenges us to ask ourselves how ready we might be to lead. Passage: Mark 16:1-8
Duration: 42 mins
The story of Easter, Christ's resurrection from the dead, brings us an ultimate challenge -- a challenge for our head, our heart, and our hands. The challenge for our head is in accepting that it really did happen. This was not just one of many other messianic movements, because no other messianic movement ever claimed that their messiah rose from the dead. The challenge for our heart is in understanding the grace and forgiveness that is now available for everyone through Christ's resurrection; first to his unfaithful disciples, and now to us. The challenge for the hands is in the command to go. Don't fear, but go in the power of the resurrection of to unveil the Kingdom of God in today’s world.
