In the Gospel of Mark Jesus systematically and clearly identifies who he is through his words and actions, specifically that he is the divine King and Savior. Yet the teachers of the law and even his own family refused to allow him this identity. They preferred to label him as insane or demon-possessed. People today refuse to allow Jesus his true identity as well when they try to pass him off as simply a good teacher. This message teaches us how Jesus tried to clarify his identity in a parable about Satan. Satan is described as the strong man of the house who must be bound, and only then can his possessions can be carried off. Once we see Jesus as the powerful King who, by being bound himself in our place, was able to bind Satan, then our own identity in Christ becomes clearer as well.
