The Lord of the Sabbath

Alternative content

When Jesus proclaimed that he was the Lord of the Sabbath he was making a very radical and provocative statement, reaching far beyond just a narrow declaration as to how a specific holy day of the week should be observed. Jesus was saying that he is the source of rest, which is also to say that he is our salvation and that all the requirements of salvation are met in him and completed in him. Therefore, our own attempts then to work for our salvation are totally unnecessary and even deny the work of Christ. We find true rest only in Christ. So, how will we respond?
