Passage: Mark 7:1-23
Duration: 38 mins
People like to think they have righteousness all figured out. But, just as it was in Jesus' day it remains true today, that we often go about trying to obtain righteousness from the outside in, according to our own standards and ideals of righteousness, rather than seeing Jesus as the fulfiller of the law and the prophets who can, and does, make us clean from the inside out. This message teaches us how true righteousness is undermined by tradition, but then also how it is effected by Jesus. Passage: Mark 5:21-43
Duration: 35 mins
While following a time schedule may be important to us, and though time is a good thing that God created for us, it is important for us to remember that the Kingdom Time that God operates on cannot be understood as we normally understand time. We see this clearly in the story recorded in the gospel of Mark of Jesus healing the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years and also resurrecting Jairus' daughter from death. There are several lessons about Kingdom Time that are found in this story and which are explored in this message. We also learn from this message that in serving others we must be willing to empty ourselves, something that Jesus exemplifies in this story, but that we see most fully in Jesus' death on the cross. When Jesus died on the cross he had to let go of God's hand so that he can forever hold on to ours. Please click on the "Text: slideshow" button to view a Prezi presentation of this sermon.

Passage: Mark 3:20-35
Duration: 46 mins
In the Gospel of Mark Jesus systematically and clearly identifies who he is through his words and actions, specifically that he is the divine King and Savior. Yet the teachers of the law and even his own family refused to allow him this identity. They preferred to label him as insane or demon-possessed. People today refuse to allow Jesus his true identity as well when they try to pass him off as simply a good teacher. This message teaches us how Jesus tried to clarify his identity in a parable about Satan. Satan is described as the strong man of the house who must be bound, and only then can his possessions can be carried off. Once we see Jesus as the powerful King who, by being bound himself in our place, was able to bind Satan, then our own identity in Christ becomes clearer as well. Passage: Mark 2:23-3:6
Duration: 31 mins
When Jesus proclaimed that he was the Lord of the Sabbath he was making a very radical and provocative statement, reaching far beyond just a narrow declaration as to how a specific holy day of the week should be observed. Jesus was saying that he is the source of rest, which is also to say that he is our salvation and that all the requirements of salvation are met in him and completed in him. Therefore, our own attempts then to work for our salvation are totally unnecessary and even deny the work of Christ. We find true rest only in Christ. So, how will we respond? We often believe that our greatest problems in life are the sufferings that we experience, but Mark teaches us in his Gospel, through the story of the healing of the paralytic, that our major problem is really our sinfulness, because all sin is ultimately against God. That Jesus could effect forgiveness for us was no easy thing. It involved incredible pain and suffering. But the good news is that he does forgive, if we just come to him with even a tiny bit of faith. Please click on the "Text: slideshow" button to view the Prezi presentation of this sermon.

Passage: Mark 1:14-34
Duration: 37 mins
Who really is Jesus? In the midst of a world that holds all kinds of self-serving ideas about Jesus, the Gospel of Mark accurately portrays Jesus in two ways – first as a King coming to bring in his Kingdom, and second as the Redeemer who came to set his people free. This sermon in the Gospel of Mark series focuses on Jesus’ authority as the King, which is seen first in Jesus’ proclamation of life-changing Good News, and secondly in the mission that he gives to each person who is part of his Kingdom. Passage: Mark 1:1-13
Duration: 34 mins
A lot of our focus in this Christmas series has been on the person of Jesus. Mark’s gospel, though not a telling of the specific events of Jesus’s birth, clearly teaches us that the Invasion of Divinity was not just about Jesus, but was actually all part of a beautiful dance between the three persons of the Trinity – God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This Trinity is based on a perfect love relationship between these three Persons, and it is out of this kind of love that Jesus, in obedience to the voice of the Father and with the power of the Spirit, came to this earth to save us.
