Each week, at a variety of times and on various days, thirteen Trinity members find their way to Bursley Elementary school to spend one hour with a child that they are mentoring.  They do this as part of the Kids Hope USA program in chich Trinity is partnered with Bursley school.  These mentors are meeting with children who, due to any variety of different factors, are considered “at-risk” students.  These are children who are at risk of not being successful in school because of various stressors in their lives.  The purpose of a mentor, then, is simply to spend some quality, one-on-one time with one of these kids on a regular, weekly basis, trying to be a source of consistent, dependable love and concern for that child.  Sometimes the mentor may help the child catch up on some school work, but most often the emphasis is just on getting to know each other and hopefully having some fun together.  Ask any mentor and they will tell you that it is a wonderfully rewarding experience to get to know and form a bond with these great kids.  This is a ministry that has unlimited growth potential, so we are always ready to welcome new mentors.  Kids Hope USA’s mission:  build caring relationships… one child, one hour, one church, one school.

 

Last year Trinity CRC joined 12th Avenue CRC in the Kids Hope USA program at Bursley Elementary School. Currently we have 14 mentors working with 14 children...
