Rog and Gloria Klein flew to southern California to visit with their daughter-in-law's folks.  Son Dave and his wife Corina had bought one of her folks' cars; Rog and Gloria were to deliver that new purchase to their kids in Alaska.  Well, Rog and Gloria set out driving all the way up the Pacific coast into Canada.  But, they had quite an experience when driving through the Yukon Territory...

Early one morning they came out of their motel in the Yukon and noticed a car speeding out of the parking lot from the business next door.  That vehicle was followed by two police cars in chase.  When Kleins were ready a few minutes later, they started out heading that same direction toward Alaska.  As they traveled the almost empty road they began to notice construction equipment scattered around the traffic lanes.  Chain saws, generators, etc. had evidently been hastily thrown out of that speeding car in hopes of stopping the police from catching them.  (Later they learned that the police stopped chasing them because the suspects were shooting at the officers as well.)  Now well out in the middle of nowhere, Rog hit one big tool (a chainsaw) which wedged under the front of their car bringing it to a sudden stop.  Rog and Gloria tried to back off of the debris without success.  It was twenty minutes later before another vehicle came their way on this dark, cold, and desolate stretch of highway in the tundra.  A good Samaritan couple on the deserted road stopped to help.  Rog jacked up the front end and he and the other gentleman were able to lift the car free of the clutter so that Gloria could back it up.  Nothing was leaking and the car would run, so the Kleins continued on their way.  A few minutes later they came upon an oil slick in the road and saw the suspect car down in the ditch. But, seeing no one there, Kleins didn't stop.  Forty-five minutes later up the road, two police cars came southbound and stopped the Kleins.  Rifles drawn they subjected them to a thorough interrogation and inspection before apologizing for the scare and letting them proceed.  Three hours later Kleins came to the Alaska/Yukon international border where they were subjected to yet another thorough inspection.  They inquired and were told that yes this is due to the robbery south of here; though the car had been ditched (literally), no one had been caught.

Gloria said that they eventually delivered the slightly damaged car to their kids.  They were very happy to arrive at Dave and Corina’s safely after 4,200 miles of travel and seeing some of God’s great creation.  Truly God was with them and answered many prayers.

They did have a wonderful three-week visit with Dave's family--with exciting stories to relate before they flew back home.
